Hearth & Play started with a simple observation: the objects a family touches every day — the pan that makes Sunday breakfast, the wooden toy passed from one sibling to the next — deserve to be made as well as anything else in the home.
We make two kinds of things. Kitchenware built to last decades, not seasons. And toys built to survive childhood — the drops, the chewing, the being loved a little too hard — and still be worth handing down.
How We Started
Hearth & Play began in a small workshop, born from a frustration many parents share: cookware that warps after a year, and toys that break before the birthday photos are even printed. We set out to make the opposite — pieces finished with the same care whether they end up on the stove or in a toy box.
That idea shaped everything that followed. We work with people who've spent their careers with iron, wood, and textile, and we ask them to bring that same standard to both sides of our catalog.
What We Believe
Made to be kept, not replaced. We design for the long term. A cast-iron pan should outlive the person who bought it. A wooden toy should survive more than one child.
Materials, not marketing. Solid oak, FSC-certified beech, enamel-coated cast iron, organic cotton. We name what something is made of because it's the reason it lasts — not because it sounds good on a label.
Safe enough to trust without thinking twice. Every toy meets rigorous safety and material standards before it reaches a shelf. Non-toxic finishes, no small-part risk for the ages we design for, no exceptions.
Beautiful because it's used, not because it's decorative. Nothing in our range exists just to look good in a photo. If a design doesn't hold up to daily use, it doesn't ship.
How We Make Things
Each piece moves through a small number of hands, not a large number of machines. Our kitchenware is finished by craftspeople who check weight, balance, and seal by hand before anything is packed. Our toys are sanded, tested, and inspected piece by piece — because a toy a child puts in their mouth has no room for shortcuts.
We keep our supply chain small and known to us. We can tell you which workshop made your pan and which mill milled the wood in your child's building blocks.
Who We Make This For
Parents building a home they're proud of, room by room. People who've stopped wanting to replace things every year and started wanting to choose well, once. Families who see a toy as something to be handled with the same care as furniture — not something disposable.
We're not the biggest catalog you'll find, and that's deliberate. We'd rather make forty things exceptionally well than four hundred things adequately.
